What is Search Engine Optimization (also known as SEO)? A broad search engine optimization definition is that search engine optimization is the art and science of making web pages attractive to the search engines.

The goal of search engine optimization is to get a web page high search engine ranking. The better a web page’s search engine optimization, the higher a ranking it will achieve in search result listings. This is especially critical because most people who use search engines only look at the first page or two of the search results, so for a page to get high traffic from a search engine, it has to be listed in those first two pages. A top level domain, also known as a TLD, is a domain at the top of the Domain Name System hierarchy.

Under the Domain Name System, an Internet address has four elements; a server prefix, a domain name, a domain suffix (or extension), and a country code (the only optional element).
